Partonomies for interactive explorable 3D-models of anatomy

چکیده
We introduce a concept to model subtle part-whole-semantics for the use with interactive 3d-models of human anatomy. Similar to experiences with modeling partonomies for physical artifacts like machines or buildings we found one unique part-whole-relation to be insufficient to represent anatomical reality. This claim will be illustrated with anatomical examples. According to the requirements these examples demand, a semantic classification of part-whole-relations is introduced. Initial results in modeling anatomical partonomies for a 3d-visualization environment proved this approach to be an promising way to represent anatomy and to enable powerful complex inferences.

Three-dimensional Atlas of the Brain Anatomy and Vasculature1
Of the existing atlases of the brain anatomy and cerebrovasculature, none integrates the anatomy and vasculature by providing for direct manipulation of three-dimensional (3D) cerebral models. An atlasbased application was developed in four steps: (a) construction of 3D anatomic models, (b) construction of 3D vascular models, (c) interactive spatial coregistration of the anatomic and vascular m...
متن کاملA Realistic 3D Spatial/Symbolic Model of the Visible Man
Introduction The quality of the 3D models created to date from the Visible Human Project [1] stays far behind that of the original data, because they do not reflect the rich original anatomical detail. This paper therefore presents a novel approach of segmenting and modeling the 3D anatomy of the Visible Human data, which leads to a nearly photorealistic interactively explorable model. The most...
متن کاملModeling Cardiopulmonary Interactions in Trauma
Injuries in trauma aaect anatomical structures and indirectly aaect physiological systems through mechanical behavior and physical proximity. This paper presents our methods and models for simulation cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. We demonstrate our system that simulates normal, quiet breathing, and a tension pneumoth-orax. Our goal is to enable students of anatomy and physiology to ex...
متن کاملA randomized controlled study of a computer-generated three-dimensional model for teaching ear anatomy
Introduction The use of computer-generated three-dimensional (3D) anatomical models to teach anatomy has proliferated. However, there is little evidence that these models are educationally effective. The purpose of this study was to test the educational effectiveness of a computer-generated 3D model of the middle and inner ear. Methods We reconstructed a fully interactive model of the middle an...
